Antefil Composite Tech

About Us

Who We Are

Antefil Composite Tech (“ante” being Latin for “before”) is a startup project at ETH Zurich that is revolutionizing the composites manufacturing industry by combining reinforcing filaments with a thermoplastic matrix material before processing them into textiles and structures. Antefil was co-founded by Executive Lead Dr. Christoph Schneeberger, Operational Lead MSc Nicole Aegerter, and Technology Lead Prof. Dr. Paolo Ermanni in 2019. Antefil’s mission is to expedite the transition of the global composites industry to a more cost-effective and energy-efficient future through its patent pending technology. Antefil is seeking to achieve these goals through redefining the time effectiveness, quality, and recyclability of the composites manufactured using its products.

Our History

The origins of Antefil go back to doctoral research that was started in 2015 at ETH Zurich. In 2018, we created a first prototype line to spin continuous hybrid fibres. Later in the same year, the first material samples were consolidated into laminates and research began on part production using bicomponent fibres. 2019 began the official journey of Antefil as a startup project ETH. This new step forward allowed us to secure transfer funding in the form of an ETH Pioneer Fellowship and a BRIDGE Proof of Concept grant. We gained even more support in 2021 through the Venture Kick initiative and Innosuisse.

Our Mission

We want to help companies create the best components they can by reducing their material costs, lowering their cycle times, and keeping workers safe. By providing high-quality hybrid intermediate materials, we can avoid any of the impregnation or curing steps that commonly occur in polymer composites manufacturing, helping our customers to build uniform and high-quality structures while cutting back on the cycle time. We take environmental harm and worker safety seriously and have developed our products to replace irritant and degassing resin formulations with safe and easy-to-process thermoplastics. This is complemented by the fact that our fibres are fully weldable to suit all our customer’s needs for lightweight joining technologies. To top it all off, our products provide the potential for various reuse and recycling streams, helping to contribute to better material resource efficiency and a circular economy.
